Forgotten legend of a drunken knight and friend of his priest.

A couple of weeks ago on the Internet Hipanel Indi-game Mouthwashing . She was praised for a style resembling PS1, atmospheric music and a worked out script that seems written for the film, and not for the game. Hearing all the positive reviews and seeing exciting animations, I decided to try this game.

I survived horror and grief on the characters, enjoyed music, but the question arose: is it really a game? Yes, this is a walking simulator, and although it is made at a good level, sometimes I was bored just to move and wait for new dialogs. The only constant mechanics – the search for access codes – slightly violates the atmosphere of realism.

Don’t think that I’m just criticizing the game. There are really great plot and staging horror. However, I am the person who appreciates the balance between gameplay and the plot

But what if I tell you that there is a game that combined the script and stylized under the 90th graphics, and shocked music, and at the same time he fascinates you with gameplay!

Ladies and gentlemen, meet a game who can be described as “knightly novels met Lovecraft and Terry Pratchett” or also Felvidek was retold on this meeting!

The game was developed by a student (at the time of development) from Slovakia Joseph Pavelka and originally conceived as homework on RPG-Maker, but later the project grew and by the end of the development was replaced by the engine. Two things inspired the Joseph project:

1. Passion for history and the Middle Ages

2. Fantasy Synth music genre (you can know it by viral videos about gnomes and knights)

And here you can say, “So, the four -eyed, in which necronomion you read that this gourmet music has become an inspirer for the game?”. Well, just compare:

The cover of this genre

But also the music itself from the game resembles this genre. But about this and about the schedule, we will talk in another section.

There are also questions with historicity, but the author himself stated that he wanted to achieve precisely authenticity and not historicality. That is all customs, the atmosphere is conveyed correctly, but it is the events and conventions that differ (this is if you clean all mysticism by brackets). But, although I am also fond of history, I was slightly deepened into a showdown of the Commonwealth and the Habsburgs (yes, at that time Slovakia was half covered by the first and second), but this game inspired me to start reading about it (but I immediately apologize for the blunders and jambs in my reasoning about historical events). And therefore, as a sort of bridge, the game copes perfectly without leaving either in stuffiness or in a very torn from reality created to promote modern ideas.

And races we started talking about the plot, then we’ll go to it (and yes, I will tell in detail only about the tie. Then I will discuss different episodes without spoilers. Because this ballad must be tested by yourself).

History unfolds in medieval Slovakia which was called https://casinoways.org/ Filvidek at that time. And it is not in the best condition, on the one hand, an external threat in the form of a speech by a rod, and on the other, the internal in the face of the Hussites that corroded the country. Our action begins with the seeing of the protagonist – the knight of Pavol, who is still a drunkard, sarcastic asshole and deep down, broken from war and life circumstances.

Pavil. And yes, he will walk with this smile all the time. Someone will say – bug, I will say – character chip and Chekhovsky gun.

And one of these situations is the departure of the wife of Pavol, which activated the protocol “every day Friday” in him. But this “fun” pastime interrupts a sudden explosion in the tower nearby. And it seems to Pavol to spit on this from the height of three beers of beer but the lord of these lands Joseph, learning about this, immediately sent a woeful intelligence on intelligence. But knowing about. the habits of his knight, the Lord sends with him a priest Matea, who only recently arrived at the scene for the service.

And such a duet from an alcoholic knight and a dushnil priest will accompany us the whole plot who will present us and the third side of the conflict-the secret order of the cultists (with which the wife of the protagonist is associated) worshiping kahwe (“coffee” in our way) and the mysterious grains themselves, who, with a certain cooking, turn a person who would have envied the lavcrift.

But here you probably will have two questions:

1. Seriously? Here we have at the beginning the emphasis on historicity, and here the bang, and already monsters, mermaids and ancient gods. Dissonance.

2. Well, the story is some kind of very simple and is not suitable in comparison with the “washbasin for the mouth”.

And yes, the first claim may take place, but only judging from my brief retelling. In fact, everything here does not look organically in the last turn due to the fact that every action in the script leads to something and what happened at the beginning is directly connected with the end of history (and both half of each other explain, including in mystical terms). And the plot itself can be described as “the legend of the knights of those years told in our time”. That is, I can believe that the ancient epic could really exist about the brave knight Pavol and his faithful friend Priest, who repulse the overseas burden, which is good people into nonhumans. But already in the modern version, the knight is a broken alcoholic from which his wife has left and which they help only for him to lag behind (one of my first battles was with the merchant under the estate that only after Muzzle agreed to sell my weapons), and the priest is not an omnipotent sage, but a regular mortal who knows little about the world. And the cultists themselves are not anonymous evil, but the same residents of the country as the main characters who are simply tired of the inaction of the baron and want to expel the Hussites with their methods.

And here we go to the answer to the second question asked above. The plot is not only structured, it is also full of interesting characters and situations. Take for example the main duet again. Yes, the pavil sometimes behaves like an asshole and drinks abundantly, but behind this shirmas lies a good person who sincerely loved his wife (throughout almost the whole adventure his motivation is only on her and is fixed), and he is imbued with a friendly sympathy and by the end of the game of the mountain is ready to turn off for the sake of his salvation. In addition, he is a really good warrior who went through more than one battle, managed to survive in them and by the beginning of the game he generally lives under the same roof with the baron, which speaks of a high rank at court for merits (or I had a LNGS, and the author was too lazy to make a separate location for the HG dwelling).

Matey is also not one-dimensional fool-priest. He sincerely believes in what he does, but at the same time ready for the sake of a common cause will come to tradition and commit a sin for the good (in our case, this is to go to the strip and get drunk in the bar but still). And throughout the game, it is Matey who becomes the voice of Pavol’s mind. Distributing him from very wild things.

And here the same thing is triggered by Beyond Good & Evil-it would seem to be simple and clicked characters cling to you and even open from the other side because of which by the end of the game I generally emphasized them and not for honor or peace over my head, but simply for the well-being of these baldbes.

The disclosure of the characters is helped by additional quests or just activity activity on locations. You can return a fugitive daughter to your parents who escaped because of love for the cultist, you can re-educate the spoiled priest, or you can help the burgomaster’s family escaping from the city who finally hangs in the balance of chaos. But what is interesting is the influence of these quests on the main plot. It can be like nominal (if you do not withdraw the burgomaster’s family from the city, then at the end of the cultists their house is burned by cultists and most likely they died in a fire), and directly affecting the plot (for example, the baron can die from an attempt either, or after helping some cultists, they will refuse to go to the last fight against us). But there is one problem – it is not always clear whether the quest will affect the plot or not. So, at the first passage, I did not go one quest, not understanding where to go, and only then it turned out that this particular quest saved the baron from death, although it was not connected with it in any way. But since the game by that time had already hooked me, I planned the second passage with all the quests. So we will write this moment in a controversial, but still in a good reason for rehed.

And probably the last thing to say about the plot of this game is that this is what. I deceived you! Yes, with all these comparisons with the “rotomatic” and describing the depths of the characters, I wanted to hide from you that Felvidek – first of all Comedy adventure. Yes, let’s not forget that things are happening in the Deep Middle Ages where everything is full of stupid and superstitious people who give an excellent occasion for jokes. In the world of the game, parents do not understand why their daughter fled from them because they were her passwords and humiliated any “decent” village family. The Baron of the Local Lands Gamer and more like a big child who likes everything foreign, while under his castle the cultists of the whole tunnel dug up. And finally, this is the world in which mermaids can live in wells and on the head of the dark deity you can cook coffee. And it is humor that is the link between history (t.To. You can easily joke over the superstitions of those years) and fantasy with intersections with Lovecraft (T.To. These superstitions themselves are transferred to mythical creatures). Yes, and this very humor is very good here and from every joke I, if not neighing, it definitely grinned.

But I seemed to say that the same Mouthwashing did not come to me because of the meager presence of gameplay? What is the situation with this our main guest?

Let’s start with the fact that this is jrpg.

– Captain! We are attacked.

– The body is from the tail!

– What? They are not even from our universe! And what do they need? D.ABOUT.WITH., Report everything by the protocol!

– The fact is that your “viewing object” is RPG on RPG Maker created by the Slovak and with gloomy graphics with a reference to Lovecraft. The corps already had experience with a similar game because of which they exploded all the lower processors responsible for the allocation.

– Stop! Enough d.ABOUT.WITH! Resume broadcasting, bombing time. facts!

-There is a captain!

So, the game is not like Fear & Hunger . Not in the plot plan, not in gameplay. And if we have already figured out the first, then about the gameplay must be clarified. Let’s start with the fact that this is not a full jrpg. There is no pumping as such, the character receives all abilities thanks to the subjects that can be found on locations or receive after victory over the enemy. And the level of complexity here is much lower than in “Fear and starve” and this is not a minus at all! Fights do not have time to become a stuffy routine and the enemies themselves have such an understanding as “progression”, then, if you are at the very beginning of the game, then you will not be thrown a fat demon with the abilities for poisoning or vanshots. Here, be kind, first wave with ordinary Gusites, then with thicker knights and then with hell you can (and then all the obsessed ones also differ in strength and at the beginning they will give them alleviate). Yes, and Joseph approached the battles more as a director. Enemies here can be killed from one poke, and not because of easy complexity, but because these are two relatives of the priest who asked to detain the main duet by paying a bottle of a plum. If there are many enemies on the contrary and you don’t take it out, then this is not because you are as a player – NUB, but because you need to lose in order to show the power of the enemy.

If we talk about gameplay, in general, then (except for the previously listed differences) for fans of the genre there will be nothing wrong here. The author did not invent the bicycle but (unlike some) did not break it. The battles are cheerful and closer to the end, I began to think just about who should go so that the gender of the detachment was not killed, and keep the local manna (and it is replenished only outside the battle)

But there is also a research part of the game between the battles and it. ordinary. Yes, no bugs or wooden control. The only thing that can be said about this part is great interactivity with local residents and objects around.

But what the gameplay makes interesting and fascinating is so music And graphics!

Let’s start with the first and not only that it was written in the style of Fantasy Synth, to which I have gotten out lately, so also crazy! Especially the music of the battles, after the first listening to which my brain substitute it to any situation. (And during a fight behind the garages, and when the client himself joked and correct me, and even in time waiting for the queue in the MFC.) There are, of course, more gloomy compositions for the village or the final location that are made at the same level.

The graphics here is also gorgeous and gives a plus of 100 balls to the atmosphere. It’s one thing to drink the healing, but it’s completely different when you eat porridge during the battle or drink a plum. And most importantly how it is animated! It is clear that this took the most time for the development.
